Salary cap
Congress has legislatively mandated a limitation on direct salary for individuals under NIH grant and cooperative agreement awards. If the PI salary is greater than the NIH salary cap, salary cap cost share is used to meet the effort commitment written in the proposal.
Public access policy
Public Access Policy requires that all investigators funded by the NIH submit an electronic version of their final peer-reviewed manuscripts upon acceptance for publication to PubMed Central. This should be made publicly available no later than 12 months after the official date of publication.
